N.Z. DERBY WINNER. Though the Derby winner, Gold Chief, races in the nomination of his breeder, Mr. J. Westerman, it is understood that the eolt'« driver, Roy Meseervey, and the trainer, L. Davidson, have substantial interests in him. A POOR DISPLAY. The three-year-old Ronald Logan was made a good favourite for the Hurricane Handicap at Forbury Park, but the heavygoing was evidently not to his liking, for he gave a poor display. Victory rested with Blue Diamond, who drew away in the home straight for a comfortable win from Colossal and Walter Moore. The last-named stayed on better than in any of his previous races, but the speedy Happy Man again spoilt his chance at the start. FREMONT RETURNS. After a long absence from the tracks, the American stallion Fremont showed a return to his best form by leading till within a furlong of the poet in the Churchill Handicap at Forbury Park, when he was headed by Southern Smile. The favourite, Great Don. made a brilliant beginning, and, after losing his place in the middle stages, finished on strongly in Hhb* piece.
