PONIES ON TRACK.
ATHLETIC CLUB PROTEST.
PAPAKURA PROBLEM
At a meeting of the Papakura Borough Council last night a letter was received from the Papakura Amateur Athletic Club strongly protesting ajrainst the council allowing pony events to be run on its specially prepared track at Prince Edward Park on the occasion of the forthcoming carnival and floral fete for patriotic funds. A deputation consisting of the club president. Mr. F. Osborne, the secretary, Mr. S. Heron, and treasurer, Mr. C. Baulf, waited on the meeting. Mr. Baulf said the track was now better than ever, thanks to the council and club, and to permit pony events on it would render it dangerous both to runners and cyclist«. He suggested as an alternative that the pony events could be run at the northern end of the park, off the track altogether. The Mayor, Mr. S. Evans, said that if another place was possible all was well and good. Mr. D. J. Graham urged that ever\ effort should be made to protect thrunning track. Acting on the Mayor's suggestion the deputation agreed # to meet the ground | committee on Saturday morning am. I thrash out the matter.
