SENT TO PRISON.
HAIRDRESSER'S OFFENCE. "SCURRILOUS PAMPHLETS." WELLINGTON, this day. The possession of pamphlets which were described by Mr. 4. L. Stout, S.M.. as beuig of a scurrilous nature resulted in a reserved judginei* and the conviction of James Kelniau, ajred 37, a hairdresser, who was charged last Thursday with, having in his possession 127 copies of a pamphlet entitled '"Murder" with a view to facilitating the publication of a subversive statement. Sentence was imposed of 12 months' hard labour. Mr. Stout did not think it could seriously be contended that the pamphlets did not contain a subversive statement. Accused had given no evidence to explain his possession of them and Mr. Stout thought it could properly be inferred that the only reason for his possession of them was to facilitate their puhlication.—(Prese Assn.)
