YOU CAN HELP NOW.
London, at once heart and guardian of the Empire, is in the front line of the blitzkrieg to-day, fighting a battle for her life, for the lives and safety of us in New Zealand equally with her own, against a cruel, wanton and malevolent foe. By using methods similar to those adopted in the systematic slaughter of refugees in Belgium and France, Hitler seeks to produce such terror and confusion that the invasion of England will be as easy as was the conquest of the Low Countries. "Little does Hitler know the tough fibre of Londoners. 'What he has done is to kindle a fire in British hearts here and all over the world which will glow long after all traces of the conflagration which he has caused have been removed," said Mr. Churchill in his speech on Thursday. And we who are half a world away feel the glow equally in our hearts with our kinsmen who face death and mutilation with such sublime heroism. We know that they are grievously wounded, and out of our burning admiration for them we are determined to do all that lies in our power to succour and relieve the distressed among them. Remote from the ever-present danger of the battle zone, each can help by freely giving, according to Lis means, to the fund opened by the "Auckland Star" for the relief of the wounded and the homeless. There was never a worthier or a more appealing cause. The response should be as immediate as is the need, for the whole amount subscribed, however great, will be used for the one purpose. Aucklanders can "give till it hurts," assured that every penny contributed will be used to lighten the burden of London's stricken but unshaken people
