CROQUET CLUBS.
Hillsb oro.—The official opening of Hillsboro Croquet Club was held on Thursday, the weather being perfect. Mrs. F. Witrd, president, a cordial welcome to a large gathering and called on Mrs. Robertson, representative of the Auckland Croquet Association, to say a few words Sprays of flowers were presented to Mesdarnes Ward, Robertson and Greenville. Mrs. Greenville played the first ball, declaring the lawns open for the season 193940. Progressive croquet\vas played and at the coneluston Mrs. Ward presented prizes to Mrs. Witham and Miss A. Washer, section A; Mrs. Holley and Mrs. McKean, section B.
Avondale.—The official opening of the Avortdale Croquet Club was unfortunately marred by heavy rain in the morning. However, several visitors and club members were present in the afternoon. The president, Mrs. Henderson, extended a hearty welcome to all. Mrs. Robertson, vice-president of the Auckland Croquet Association, in a 'brief speech wished the club a successful Reason. Mrs. Henderson then played the first ball and declared the lawns open. Afternoon tea was followed by progressive 500, the winners being Mrs. ParkerHill, Mrs. Gray, Mrs. McKeown, Mrs. Dyson, Mrs. Jarvis and Mrs. Witham.
