BRITAIN PREPARED.

MAIN ROADS TREBLED.

RINGED WITH AERODROMES.

Graphic impressions of Europe, and particularly of Britain, immediately before the war were given to members of the Auckland Creditmen's Club yesterday at a luncheon gathering by Mr. G. Morton Smith. Mr. Smith has recently returned from a tour abroad.

Mr. Smith was deeply impressed with the spirit of the British people. Along with material rearmament there had gone hand in hand a moral rearmament, and for the first time in his life he had had to stand in a queue to go to church. He believed that by the end of this year, if not at present, Britain would be the strongest air Power in the world. Aeroplanes were being stored two deep, one on top of the other, and still there •was not room enough. At intervals of 50 to 75 miles up the east coast aerodromes were being built, so that it was no exaggeration to say that the country was literally ringed about. Anti-aircraft guns were mounted at every strategic place in London and on the east coast. On that coast, also, roads had 'been doubled and trebled. The preparation in extent and detail was amazing.
