NEW ANGLE SHOWN.
HELP FOR TERRITORIALS. MORE THAN CIVILIAN WAGE. ! A new angle was raised at the meeting of the Manukau County Council when a letter was received from the New Zealand Territorial Association with reference to the provision of recreational facilities for troops in the North Shore area.
A member of the council pointed out that many territorials were actually better off on guard work than they had been in civil life.
He cited an instance from his own district where a man who had been in receipt of £4 0/ a week as a county council employee was now getting £4 11/ a week and full rations for guarding what wai actually a private enterprise. Moat of the men could' well afford to provide theit own .amenities. The letter was received.
