UNIQUE SITUATION.
HARLOW'S DOUBLE: TRIBUTE TO ACTRESS. A young lady who find** herself in a queer position is Miss Mary Dees, who i arrived in Auckland this morning in the ! Maripoea. She was the girl who, after I doubling for Jean Harlow for three' years, suddenly had to finish Jean's picture when Jean died in the middle of it. "It made Mary Dees," she eaid, "but I have to Watch that at the sanie time it does not destroy her. For after all — I have my own work. I am so like Jean that I even have the eame mannerisms. I did not copy lier —they are naturally the eame. I hunch my shoulders in the eame way, I use my hands as she did. It is some strange freak. It was a good lift for Mary Dees, stepping into Jean's picture, but it hae its bad points. There is a danger that the public will think that I have nothiug of my own to give. And I have. I love my work. I don't care how hard I work. I feel, too, that if a persjon will give himself wholeheartedly to" work, and has something to give, that the right medium will come. I'm still looking for mine, and in the meantime I'm in the unique position of trying to live down the great opportunity of my life." Jean Harlow, Miss "Dees says, wae one of the sweetest, simplest girls she ever knew. "We all loved her," she said. "It was a terrible time for me— having to wear her clothes and to finish her work. I hope I never know again such sorrow as I felt then. It gave me a great opportunity as on artist but as a woman I felt the tragedy keenly." Miss Dees wants to go to "the place nearest the South Pole"—Stewart Island—while she is in New Zealand She is looking forward to the country she hae heard so much of.
