MILK SUPPLY.
FOR AUCKLAND CITY.
COMMENT ON PRICE INCREASE
(From Cur Correspondent.)
HAMILTON, Sunday.
In discussing ,the supply of winter milk for distribution in Auckland by the Auckland Milk Council, Mr. C. J. Parlane, general manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, said that while hie company would do everything possible to assist the council to secure the necessary supplies of milk, it was essential that the price to be paid for accommodation milk should be such that it would cover the heavy cost "of cartage and other costs incurred by suppliers in diverting their milk' from the usual channels.
Mr. Parlane said he noticed that the council had decided to increase the price of milk as from April 15, but it wns quite possible by that time pood rains would hnve been experienced and tlie present difficulties overcome. Had the price been Increased from March 15 it would have been more appropriate to the occasion.
Under ordinary conditions there wn* ample milk available within 15 or 20 miles of the city to more than supply tho needs, said Mr. Parlane, arid it would be well therefore for distant farmers who were now relieving the P°eition to reajiso the, temporary nature of tho call now being; made upon them.
