When his partner played his lowest Spade. East stubbornly continued the suit. East should, of course, have cashed another Heart trick, but he refused to believe that Mr. Langdon had no more Spades, and also felt that as he held a stopper in Clubs he was bound to win another trick. East quickly received his just deserts for his stubbornness. Mr. Langdon trumped the second Spade, and, spreading his hand, declared, "I am playing out all my trumps, which brings everybody down to three cards. West must retain the Ace of Spades and therefore can hold only two Clubs. I "will then discard the Queen of Spades from dummy and hold the Aee-King-small of Clubs. If East discards down to two Clubs, my three Clubs in dummy will all be good. And if he elects to throw the Queen of Hearts, my Jack will be high." It did not take Mr. Langdon's opponents long to concede him his contract, as they saw it would be impossible for them to win another I trick.— (Copyright.)
