DEATH FROM MEASLES.
(From Our Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, Thursday. The present outbreak of measles among children in the Whakatane district has been attended by one death, that of a Maori, Hori Meremu Tiratuka, aged 18, of Paroa. At an inquest before the coroner, Mr. G. A. Brabant, relatives gave evidence that deceased went into the sea to gather pipis. He was then apparently developing the infection. A chill followed and he gradually became worse and died. The coroner returned a verdict that death was the result of measles, accentuated by a severe chill.
