INTERNATIONAL XI.
WOMEN'S HOCKEYITES. ANOTHER ENGLISH VISIT. PLAT AUCKLAND TO-MORROW Tbe first English women's hockey team to visit Auckland for a quarter of a century will meet the provincial fifteen at Eden Park to-morrow. The match will be played as a curtainraiser to the Grafton-Grammar Old Boys Rugby match on Xo. 1 ground. Patrons of sport generally are particularly requested to note that this will be the first and only chance of seeing in action a remarkably fine side. Only two games could be arranged in this province, the first having taken place at Te Awamutu yesterday against the holders of the Provincial Cup. Last year the English team had a splendid goal record in winning all its four internationals—Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Holland. Prior to yesterday the members of the 1938 team had played only one game together, this being in London the dav before they sailed, when they defeated the Rest of England by one goal to nil. Outstanding among the players is the captain, M. M. Knott, who has been an English international for 13 years and has captained England for the past six. Miss Knott has led English teams on tours in the United States and South Africa, as well as in Continental countries, including Germany. Another notable player is the vice-cap-tain, M. C. Collins, an international of four years' standing, who has played in the United States and German}'. Two other internationals are J. L. O'Donoghue and M. J. Lodge, both of whom obtained their "caps" last season. Nearly all the other players have represented one of the five provinces into which England is divided for hockey competitions.
The manager-umpire, Miss E. J. Warwick, has had a long association with lockey, having visited Australia in 1927 ind the Continent in 1934 with English reams.
