TOWERS OMITTED. Not in Forty Trainees—Captain's Notable Record. Cyril Towers, who was captain of Australia against the Springboks, has unexpectedly been omitted from the Xew South Wales Rugby Union team to meet Queensland and Victoria. This is interpreted to mean the selectors are searching for new blood in anticipation of the All Blacks' visit. The 40 players named to train for important representative matches of the season (including the opening game of the All Blacks' tour on July l(i) were:— Full-backs.—V. Burgess," M. Clifford, R. Rankin. Wing Three-quarters.— B. Jones, J. Kelaher. F. W. O'Brien, J. W. Evan, H. S. Walker. Centre Three-quarters.—P. K. Collins, K. E. Gilleland, V. C. Miller, L. Quinlivan. Five-eighths.—V. Richards, L. Smith. Half-backs.—M. Becher, E. C. Gibbons, C. Ramalli, C. G. Stone. .Forwards.—V. A. Auland, E. J. Callaghan, W. H. Cerutti, C. H. Gerrand, B. W. Gill, V. Hardinian, A. Hodgson, E. Hutchinson, F. Hutchinson, R. L. Kelly, A. V. Livingstone, F. Lehmann, R. L. McCarthy, J. H. Malone. F. Purnell, K. M. Ramsay. A. Rogers, A. H. Stone, R. E. Thorald-Smith, J. E. Turnbull' K. S. Windon. W. H. Travels. While C. H. Towers holds the record for most appearances for Xew South Wales (40), W. H. Cerutti has more combined appearances. The figures are: — Cerutti: 43 frames for Xew South Wales and 17 for Australia; total, 60. This is claimed as a world record for international Rugby. Towers: Xew South Wales, 46; Australia, 9. Only three Xew South Wales plavers have scored 100 points for the State. Towers heads the list with 130 (23 tries. 17 conversions, nine penalty goals). S. Wickham, a member of the 1901 Xew South Wales team in Xew Zealand, and captain on the l!>or> Australian tour of the Dominion, tallied 120 (14 tries, 16 conversions, 10 penalty goals, and four from marks). A. W. Ecus was onlv one behind, his 119 comprising 37 conversions and 15 penalty goals. Towers played for Xew South Wales at Eden Park in 1928. when the visitors beat a strong Auckland fifteen bv 19 points to 8. He also scored two 'tries in the sole Test of 1931, when Xew Zealand beat Australia (20—13) at Eden Park only on R. G.
