OBITUARY.
— * MR. T. M. FOWKE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRTSTCHURCH, Thursday. __ The life of Mr. Thomas Morgan Fowke, which ended to-day with death at the age of 00 years," was closelv associated with the development of railway travel in New Zealand from the very earliest days. He joined the service in 1866, and retired in 1906, and two of ■ his surviving sons, as well as a son-in-law. are on superannuation after 40 years' service with the Department. He was given the position as porter on the Canterbury railway in 1800. and 10 years later was promoted to the rank of guard.
