RECREATION ACTIVITIES. TRAINING FOR CITIZENSHIP. Twelve members of the Y.W.C.A. have returned to Auckland after representing the local association at the sixth triennial convention of the National Young Women's Christian Association which was held in Dunediii. The following is a summary of the decisions ami resolutions of the convention :-- Promotion of activities, educational and general indoor and outdoor for combined groups of young men and young women is to be considered a vita! part of programmes within the associations. He creative activities sjionsored by the Y.W.C.A. are to be competitive only to serve and stimulate the interest ' and enjoyment of all players. The principle of regiouil conferences ami tournaments for sports and other activities was approved. In order to retain and challenge the interest of the 1.1-17 -year-old girls it was recommended that the citizenship aspect of programmes be emphasised. It was also recommended that activities for girls of 14 years and under be held at other than evening hours. _ Realising that the business woman of to-day desires more of her leisure time than that it be merely "pleasantly filled in," the objective to render public service to the community was set by the Business and Professional Women's Clubs within the associations. The Convention empowered the Xational Executive Committee of the Y.W.C.A. to proceed with plans for a training scheme for secretaries making) provision for three months' periods of training for inexperienced secretaries. I and short refresher courses for experi- j enced workers. All authoritative persons within the local associations were reminded of their responsibility to discover suitable recruits for the national service of the Y.W.C.A.
