TRANSPORT SERVICES.
TEMPORARY LICENSES. EXPLANATION OF POSITION. An explanation of the position that obtains with respect to applications for temporary licenses for transport services running through two or more districts, was made this morning by the Licensing Authority of the No. 1 transport district, Mr. E. J. Phelan. "Under the provisions of section 5 (I) (e) of the Transport Licensing Amendment Act, 1936," said Mr. Phelan, 'an application for a license, for either a passenger or a goods service license to be carried on within two or inffe districts is to be dealt with by such one of the Licensing Authorities for those districts as the Milliliter of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, may appoint. Since, in the case of temporary licenses strict adherence to this requirement may ckuse delay, not only to the operators concerned, but also to the public generally, the Xo. 1 Licensing Authority advices that in order to avoid such a position arising, the Minister has now directed that each application for a temporary' license for a service running through j two or more districts shall be dealt with, by the licensing authority within whose j district the applicant resides."
