COMPANY OF BUTCHERS
SHAREHOLDER DISSATISFIED.
Evidence in the petition brought by Hariy Leslie Franklin in the Supreme Court before Mr. Justice John ston to wind up a company known as Amalgamated Butchers, Limited, of Wa,ihi, was continued to-day. The petitioner vva-i one of five butchers who amalgamated their businesses in 1933, and was originally the managing director of the company. He claimed that he had been refused work in the company under the same conditions as the other directors. Mr. Cooney and Mr. Thompson appeared for the petitioner and Mr. Bono and Mr. Fiddes for shareholders to oppose the petition. Mr. Munro represented two creditors, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, and the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited. The petitioner, in evidence yesterday afternoon, denied that he had threatened to go into business in opposition to the company. The other directors, he contended, were working against him. E. G. Hands, one of the directors of the company, in cross-examination, said, he was not surprised when a motion was put at the meeting of the directors to remove Franklin from the position of managing director. Different things had been said about Franklin's running of - the farm, but not about his removal. A. Osborne, inanagin,g director of the company, stated that subsequent to obtaining a legal opinion, work in the shops on the same terms as the other directors, was offered Franklin. Witness added that he thought Franklin said that he would not take his coat off. (Proceeding.)
