HAWERA HORSES.

PROMISING YOUNGSTERS. .. SOLOIST STILL ON EASY LIST. The progress of the young horses being prepared on the Hawera racecourse is being watched with increasing interest. Opportunity is being taken when conditions permit to run them along, and although nothing outstanding has been performed several are shaping satisfac- ; torily. Ruling Star, by Chief Ruler—Phroso, and Lickem, by Lackham —Kilting, in O. Cox's stable, have had early setbacks through colds, but are shaping up now, and on Saturday morning sprinted a couple of furlongs in 275, under conditions not conducive to fast times. Both worked impressively, and though not very forward should make rapid progress from now on. Fairy Dale, by Resinous—Fairy Girl, who had a run at Wanganui, has benefited by the race and sprinted three furlongs, fin-1 ishing solidly over the last two in 26 3-ss. In the same stable, Little Robin, by Resinous—Little Thrush, who has had his preparation interfered with through falling on the road, has made a good recovery. Little Robin is a neat galloper, though on the small side. In the same category is B. La Pouple's Le Marquise, by Lord Quex from Lady Gen, a perfect little model and a smart, clean mover. J. Fryer lias three two-year-olds in a Musketoon—Panette colt, Bina, a filly by I Chief Ruler, and a colt by Vaals from the Hunting Song mare Shillong. The Musketoon coljt is a particularly attractive-looking youngster, but is not as forward as Bina, who is a bit flighty. The Vaals youngster is developing splendidly, and though he may not race until late in the season looks sure to be useful. -Narrator, by Lysander —Reminiscence, Statement, by Night Raid —Receipt, and Trim, by Lackham from Zarene, complete a list of young ones that are all making steady progress. The three-year-olds comprise a number that promise to uphold the centre's reputation. Notium, Kia Tere, Student Prince and Shemseh are all, with the exception of the lastnamed, doing really well. Notium, all going well, will race next at the Auckland Club's meeting next month, while Student Prince will probably have his first outing at the Waverley fixture.

J. Fryer has King Kiroki and Mystic Glow doing steady work. The former, by Chief Ruler from Seagull 11., is shaping well, and Mystic Glow is in nice order, but in the absence of Fryer nothing definite is ascertainable as to when they will race. Gold Band, by Lackham—Airway, had an outing at Wanganui and impressed favourably, but was backward in condition, and 'will do better later on. Lowenberg and Friesland are doing steady -work. Both look in splendid heart. Le Grand and Glenthawn are doing plenty of solid exei-ci.se. Soloist is still on the easy list and has put on' plenty of condition. H. Mills has Autumn Leaf going again. The big Mint Leaf ge\ding is bowling along soundly enough in his preliminary exercise -work at present. Silvanus is looking well again and may be seen out at Waverley. Sceptic and Golden Rill, inmates of the same stable, are also among those doing solid work on the tracks.
