MOCK COURT.
GREY LYNN APPLICATION. ■ DECLINED BY COUNCIL. • • A request by the Grey Lynn Returned Soldiers' Social Club for permission to hold a mock court in the borough on the night' of Friday, October 9, was declined by four votes to three at last night's meeting of the Moulit Albert Borough Council. « V ' • The Mayor, Mr. H. A. Anderson, in moving that the request be declined, said he did so because the night asked for was Friday night, the shopping night of the week when' there wojild, be a certain amount of traffic,'and again the council had to consider the business people of the borough. The request did not.give any idea of the number of members of the club who resided in the borough. In the absence of such information" and in view of the facts he had mentioned, he regretted it, he thought the request should be declined. Probably there was some other way in which the council could assist. Mr. H. Kayes supported the remarks of the Mayor. Mr.. H. Barnes said the whole of D ward "was in the Grey Lynn area. faV as the shopkeepers were concerned, he thought that the carnival proposed would attract a crowd and probably result in more business being done in the shops. He thought the, request should be granted. Messrs. Pickens and Nixon also favoured'granting the request. ■ The Mayor's *hat permission. be~iK>t -a •'
