MUSIC AT GERMAN CLUB.
Last evening at the German Club an interpretation of the story and music of Wagner's music drama "Tannhauser" was given by Mr. Sydney Francis Hoben, who has recently come to Auckland from Wellington. The pianist gave a dramatic presentation of the deeply absorbing story of the work <yid played all the important music, morit of it brilliantly arranged by Liszt. In Bis student days at the Leipzig Conservatorium of Music Mr._ Hoben met the Wagner family at their historic home, "Wahnfried," at Bayreuth, Bavaria. One of the festivals (occurring every few years), was in progress, and Frau Cosima Wagner presented Mr. Hoben with tickets for the three music dramas being given. Before "Tannhauser" the pianist gave several solos by Liszt and other composers.
