FUTURE PLAN.

AUCKLAND HOSPITAL. PROPOSED APPOINTMENT. HIGH EXECUTIVE POST. The Auckland Hospital Board decided last evening to hold a meeting next Tuesday afternoon, when the chairman, the Rev. W. C. Wood, will move resolutions as follow: — (1) That the board create a position of manager-secretary, who shall be in complete control of the hospital activities other than medical and nursing. (2) That the salary be £1200 a year, rising to £1500, at the rate of *£100 yearly. (3) That the position be advertised in New Zealand and Australia. (4) That authority be sought from the Government to enable tlie board to proceed with the erection of a surgical block and sanatorium, also an administrative block as the first portion of the five-year building plan. (5) That the board intimate to the Government that it regards the building of two recovery hospitals, one in the north and one in the south, as essential portions of the building plan. Report On Administration. The board met last evening to further discuss the report on the administration of the Auckland Hospital by Mr. Grey Campbell. The chairman said that they had already had a number of meeting* to discuss the report, and as there were a number of detailed suggestions it would be no great advantage to continue to discuss the report in detail. He moved that the report should be received and laid on the table. That would mean that they would accept it, and it would be for the board to use it. He intended later to move a number of resolutions, and it would be open for any member to discuss them. Mr. E. H. Potter considered that there was nothing in the report to lead them to make any drastic alterations. The board's difficulty was that they had not the accommodation that was required. The chairman's motion-was carried. Mr. E. H. Potter said that the board also had to consider providing a hospital at the North Shore, and the same thing applied to the southern area. He added that they had asked a well-known Australian architect to make a report and that would not be ready until October 10. They would have to consider a building programme. The chairman said that he considered that the two major proposals were the appointment of an executive head and the necessity for providing additional accommodation and necessary equipment for the carrying out of the various activities at the hospital. "We are in a maze with reports here and reports there and we are getting nowhere at all," said Mr. J. Waddell. "We have been 'shilly-shallying' for months and we are getting nowhere."
