TAXI COMMITTEE.
ACCOUNTANT APPOINTED. MINISTER'S STATEMENT. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The appointment of Mr. H. B. Smith, chief clerk of the Transport Department, as a member of the epecial committee investigating the taxi and town carrier question, was announced this evening by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple. * The Minister said he .had been approached by the chairman of the committee, Mr. P. M. Butler, regarding the desirability of having appointed to the committee a qualified accountant with a view to assisting with the statistical and financial aspects of the inquiry. He quite agreed that the importance of financial and statistical data in connection with the inquiry could not be stressed too much, and as they were aspects which were becoming more prominent as the inquiry progressed, he had decided to make the addition,-! 1 ar.'Xjintment.
