NO ARREST YET.

MURDER IN NORTH.

WAIHOU VALLEY SHOOTING.

POLICE SEARCH CONTINUES

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WIIANGAREI, this day. The police search for the murderer of ilr. E. S. Nelson, who was shot in the back at his Waihou Valley property on the night of July 9. is being continued. The scope of the inquiries, which previously had extended over a great part of the Ilokianga County, lias now narrowed. the movements of a number of persons known to have been in the locality of the Nelson farm at the time of the crime having been checked. The completion of this work has enabled a reduction to be made in the police party investigating the shooting, the number now engaged being about a dozen. The police are determined to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to clear tip the mystery, and they will continue operations for an indefinite period. The}" are now concentrating upon Waihou Valley and Rangiahua, with occasional trips further afield.

One of the principal difficulties on countered bv the police is that praeti cally all the Maoris in the neighbour Jiooil are related in some degree.

Inspector J. O'Hara, who has been in charge of the police investigations from the outset, is in Wliangarei for a fewdays, but will return to Waihou Valley later in the week.
