Future Dirigible Policy of America. TROUBLE WITH MAC ON.. (Received 2 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 6. A United Press, copyright Washington dispatch' states that the airship Macon, which since the destruction of the Akron, has been out of commission at Los Angeles, is the only Navy dirigible in active service and is now on manoeuvres with the main battle fleet in the Caribbean Sea on tests, the results of which will have an important bearing on the forthcoming decision as to whether America will continue or will abandon dirigible construction. This is the outcome of the Akron disaster in 1033. It is learned authoritatively that, despite official attempts to minimise the incident, the Macon was affected by structural difficulties in the recent transcontinental flight from California, when it sheared two girders, necessitating repairs, and also experienced difficulties through the climatic changes affecting the helium gas.
