APPALLING HAVOC.
TORNADO DISASTER IN ASSAM.
CALCUTTA, May 6.
Details have reached Calcutta of appalling havoc caused by the tornado in the Sylhet district, Assam, on April 30. So far more than 200 deaths have been reported, and several hundreds of people are missing. Five hundred were injured and scores of villages were destroyed, thousands of inhabitants I being homeless. It is feared that the death roll will be much heavier in remote districts, as scores of human bodies and dead animals Ure floating daily down the River Surma, where many fishing fleets and ferry boats were overwhelmed. Relief parties, have been sent to the affected area.
