ROYAL ANNIVERSARY.
Celebration of Accession of King George. QUIET CEREMONY AT HOME. (United P.A.-Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 12 noon.) LONDON - , May 0. To-day is the 24th anniversary of the King's accession to the Throne. It was celebrated quietly. Flags were flown on public buildings. The Te Deinn was sung in St. Paul's and Westminster, and an anthem written for the coronation of James 11. and a special collect was used throughout the country. Their Majesties attended a morning service in the private chapel at Windsor. They received telephonic congratulations from the Prince of Wales, the Duke of York and Prince George, while the Duke of Gloucester had lunch with his parents. Many hundreds of messages were received from all parts of the Empire. A traditional custom was observed at the Palace, the servants assembling and toasting Their Majesties in champagne.
The King and Queen will return to Buckingham Palace on Monday, when a Royal salute of 21 guns will.be fired in Hyde Park.
No arrangements have yet been made fßr the special celebrations of the 2£th anniversary.
