SPEEDWELL CUP. WON BY J. HUNT'S WAKATERE. The Speedwell Cup, donated by Messrs. Walker and Hall, donors of the Sanders and Cornwell Cups, was decided on Saturday by nine boats of the Wakatere class, and after a very good exhibition of skill In small boat nulling was won by Wakatere,. well handled by J. Hunt (skipper) and R. Nicholas, which crossed the finishing line off Devonport wharf 2m 15s ahead of Wiritoa, Neil Wing (skipper) and S. Ivil. Wakanui, B. Kitchener (skipper) finished third one second ahead of J. Brooke in Waimarie. i Tlio race started at 3.30 p.m. off the Victoria wharf, Devonport. The competitors, which were the finalists after four heats held during the season, were Wiritoa, Waimarie, Wanderer, Wakatere, Waiola, Windjammer, Wakanui, Wahine and Waiata. They got away to a perfect start in the above order. The course was troin Victoria wharf, round Sandspit beacon, thence round Resolution buoy off Parnell, thence round outer I , He beacon off Bayswater, and buck to starting line. The wind was westerly at the start, and all carried spinnakers to the Sandspit. Wiritoa held the lead on the way down, with Wanderer and Waimarie next. Wall!lie, in the lee position, ran well, and rounded first, Tin after the stnrt, followed by Wiritoa, Waiola, Wakanui, Wanderer and the rest handy, except Waiata. It was a close ham from Sandspit across to the Resolution buoy, the wind drawing a little to the nor'-west at times, and several tried to carry leading Jibs, but the boats that held to their working sails did the best. On the leg across to Resolution Wiritoa passed Wahine, and took the lead, with Wakanui third. The two leaders had a good go for the mark, Wiritoa rounding it at 8h 57m 30s. Wakatere 3h 57m 32k, Wakanui 3h 58m 4.-.s, Wahine 3h 50m 10s, Windjammer 3h 59m 40s, Waimarie 4h Om 30s, Waiuta 4h lm 40s, Wanderer 4h iita 10s, Waiola retired. After passing Resolution, tlio two leaders stood well in toward Campbell's Point, and then worked in short tacks along the outside of the deflector wall. Wiritoa led Wahine by a length, but Wahine caught her on the wrong tack and took the lead for a few boards. After weatherIng the end of the wall, Wakatere regained tlio lead aud stood into Mechanics' Buy to dodge the ebb tide, Wahine following. The wind now drew more to the northwest, giving the boats a beat all the way to Hayswater beacon. Wiritoa and Wakatere again had a very good race on the wind up to the King's wharf, lirst one and then the other taking the lead. OIT the wharf Wakatere made mi extra board to windward, before laying across for the Bayewater mark, and this won her the race, for she rounded Bayswnter 200 yards ahead of Wiritoa. Result: Wakatere (J, Hunt) wins the cup. The winning crew and the runners-up were heartily cheered by a large number of Wakatere enthusiasts on the end of Victoria wharf. Mr. W. A. Wilkinson was starter. Mr. C. Hyatt timekeeper and Mr. K. Richardson judge.

DOUBLE WIN FOR BLUE NOSE. The Heme Bay Sailing Club held two races on Saturday, starting and finishing off the Ponsoiiby wharf, lor the club's midget class lunuer 12U). The new boat, Silver i'eru, designed for the class by Mr. Arch. Logan, competed for the first time and got the gun in each race. Added interest wus given to the seniors' race by the fact of two boats being sailed by members of the Royul New Zealand Yacht Squadron, aud another by a member of tne lucnmond Cruising Club. The new bout was admired by ml, aud already two others are to be built from the samu model. Results :— Seniors. —From a good start Silver Fern was lirst away aud led throughout. AKARANA CLUB. AILSA CKAIG CUP. The Akarana Yacht Club held a race on Saturday for motor boats lor the Allsa Craig Cup. Out of the four entrants Crusader (scr) and Kenya (lm) did not start, Kenya having her rudder damaged in the recent gale and had to go on the slip. The race started at 2.16 p.m., Nyria (sm) and Octavla S. (llm) being the only starters. Nyria led from the start, rounding the Bastion over u minute ahead. The linish was: Nyria (I<\ Jeffers), 21i 4'Jin 465; Octavia S. (U. Grimmer), 2h 45m 455. Octavia S. won by 3m Is. Messrs. McKnlght, llowell and Vickerman were In charge. POINT CHEVALIER CLUB. FINAL RACE OF SEASON. The Point Chevalier Sailing Club concluded the racing season yesterday, when a general handicap was held, starting and finishing off the clubhouse. From a good start Kittiwake was first away, followed by Janet, Rewa, Ngaro, Martha S. and Aotca. Martha S. was soon in the lead, and the finish was: Martha S. (scr), 2h 24m 335; Janet (Sm), 2h 34m 20s; Ngaro (Sm), 2h 34m 435; Rewa (21m), 2h 40m 2Ss; Aotca (17m), 2h 41m 8s; Kittiwake (10m), 2h 40m 17s. Kesult: Jauet 1, Itcwa 2, Aotca 3. In addition to the general handicap, the sail-off between Ngaro and Kittiwake, which had tied for the Lupton Cup, was also decided and resulted in a win for Ngaro. WAKATERE CLUB. The Wakatere Boating Club held six races at the week-end to decide the winner of the Colllnson Cup. In this event the crews change boats for each race. After a keen contest the winner was N. Wing (skipper) and S. Ivil with 31 points; J. Hunt (skipper) and R. Nicholas second with 28 points; A. Williamson and J. Brooke tied for third place with 19 points. Ladies' Race. —A race with lady skippers was won by Waiata, sailed by Miss Walden; Miss Iris Nicholas in Wnhlne was second, and Miss V. Hunt in Wakatere third. MODEL YACHTING. ORAKEI CLUB. The Orakei Model Yacht Club continued the weekly races on Saturday, with following results :— Fifth Series, 4ft class.—Alert, scr, 1 : Valkyrie. sm, 2 : Rona, Urn, 3. The winner of the Nicholas trophy for the series was Alert, with 27 points. Fifth Series, 3ft class. —Blue Moon, 6m, 1; Comet, 4m, 2; lorangl. scr. 3. The winner of the Grayson trophy for the series was Blue Moon, with 30 points. General Handicap.—Gay, Cm, 1; Valkyrie, sm, 2: Eileen, 2m, 3. The winner of the Kissling trophy for the fifth series of general handicaps was Akarana, with 25 points. . Boys' Events.—First race: Ruby R. 1, Cecil M. 2, Flora M. 3. The Manukau Senior* Model Yacht Club held its championship races under good sailing conditions on Saturday and several close finishes were recorded.
