WANGANUI MEETING.

SOME OF THE CANDIDATES. EUST AND SPIRAL. Alcides, who is engaged in the Trial Hack on Thursday, appears to be on the improve, but he could not kee'p \vith Rust in a six-furlong flutter on Saturday morning. Kust is in great heart, and improving all the time. The Lysander filly promises to keep the others very busy in the Balgownie Hack Handicap. Knollmere was schooled over four hurdles on Friday, and jumped in his usual dashing style, though he must have touched one of the obstacles, as he was cut about the leg a bit. However, the injury did not affect him, as he hit out freely on Saturday morning when running six furlongs by himself. He showed plenty of pace, covering the first half in under 50s, and being such a fine jumiper, he must be very hard to beat in the Century Hurdles if he can see out the distance. The Grandeourt gelding makes u noise when galloping, and it may be that his wind will trouble him over the last quarter mile. Manuiri arrived on Friday night from Hawera. He appears to be very well, though he has a very swoollen knee. This, however, does not seem to give him any trouble. If he is handled to the best advantage on Thursday he should be one of the hardest for Riotous to beat in the Grandstand Steeples. Spiral and Pomp have both been hitting out consistently well recently, and they promise to run prominently in their engagements. Pomp, especially, looks as fit and fresh as ever, and what beats him in the Winter Oats should about win. Spiral is inclined to be lazy on the track, but he is in good shape, and, though he has got his full share of weight in the Empire Handicap, the Limond colt should not be far away at the finish. Both View Halloo and Porotiti have been paid up for in the Winter Oats, and the Ford ell-trained pair have been doing good work recently. View Halloo always races well on the Wanganui track, and he is likely to be handy on Thursday. Porotiti is said to be back to something like his best form, and he has shown such brilliance in Wanganui on occasions that he will not want for friends in his engagements. Tβ Rangitumau was paid up for in the Balgownie Hack Handicap, but his name was omitted from the telegraphed list of acceptors. Royal Reign was unable to start at Hawera owing to eoreness, but she will be seen out in the Grandstand Steeples at Wanganui. She is a splendid jumper and will probably pick up some stake money shortly. There is a movement afoot for the Taranaki and Egmont-Wangamii Hunt Clubs to hold a combined two days meeting in August, on a Thursday and Saturday. The yearling colt by Posterity—Episode in W. Rayner's stable has had the name Entail bestowed upon him. This colt is a classy looking customer, but is very highly strung.
