"CHEER UP WEEK."
COMMUNITY SINGING TO-DAY. I CROWDS IN QUEEN STREET. ( The Town Hall was [jacked out during t the luncli hour to-day when community t singing was held in conjunction with , the "Cheer Up Week" festival. Mr. V. i T. Drew was the leader, Miss Myra < Monk the soloist and Mrs. Barrington . Siiow the pianist. A number of fav- ] ourites were sung with a gusto which | , proved that "Cheer Up Week" has don#| }i much to dispel the gloom which has j t pervaded the city for some time. r Queen Street again to-day was un- ( usually active and the number of free | gift cards which bore names of lucky c finders, bore testimony to the fact that \ \ the shop windows had been subjected I a to a more than usual scrutiny. Last; a evening the city was illuminated with i coloured lisrhts. and in addition to the

There will be a band i parade this evening and special enter- ; tainments at the theatres and cabarets tin the city. Further entertainments have been arranged for the remainder of the week, which will end with the [ spirit of gaiety predominant.
