Taking the figures from the "Local Authorities Handbook" the bill presented annually to the community of Auckland is as follows: City Council, £1,481.000; boroughs. £1,938.000; town and road boards, £52.000; Harbour Board, £550,000; Transport Board, £674.000; Power Board. £006.000; Hospital Board. £322.000; Fire Board. £30,000. Total, £5.713.000. The number of employees in the service of the local authorities is 4850 and the salaries and wages bill is in the vicinity of £1.230,000, the chief contributors beins the City Council with £370.000 and the Transport Board with £300.000. What is the attitude of candidates for local honours regarding a reduction in their burden to the community? W hat action 13 being taken by councils and boards to reduce charges, rates and tram fares? ' OVERBURDENED.
