NEW ZEALAND WAR DEBT.
m GRANTING OF CONCESSIONS. SHOULD DOMINION SHARE? (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Members of the House are watching with interest the war debt concessions which have been recently announced, and they have reminded the Prime Minister of the developments', in the hope that the Dominion may also participate. "The Government has no official information on the matter, but it will be glad to give consideration to the question," said Mr. Forbes yesterday, when replying to an urgent question on the subject by Mr. J. O'Brien (Labour, Westland). Mr. O'Brien had stated that Great Britain had come to an agreement with the United States for reduction in interest on war debt to 3 per cent, and that Britain had allowed Australia to participate in that concession to the extent of postponing £800,000 of repayments. In view of the fact that the average rate of interest on the New Zealand war debt was 6 per cent, the Prime Minister was asked if the Governi ment would negotiate for a similar conI cession from Britain, in the hope that the interest would be reduced to the rate now charged by America.
