TASMAN RACE.
OIMARA'S CREW SATISFIED.
NO CLAIM MADE TO PRIZE*
DENIAL OF REPORT BY CABLE,
Surprise was expressed in yachting circles in Auckland concerning the reported claim of Mr. W. J. Bennell, owner of Oimara, to have won the ocean race, as his boat was the only one to complete the course to Melbourne. It now transpires that Mr. Bennell made no 6uek claim and wishes to dissociate himself and his crew from the
report. . A cable received this morning by Mr. N. L. Macky, Commodore of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, from Mr. Bennell at Melbourne, states clearly that he is perfectly satisfied with Teddy's win and disclaims responsibility for any statement to the contrary on behalf of himself and the crew of Oimara.
The many friends that Oimara's crew made while the yacht was in New Zealand waters will be pleased to learn that they recognise Teddy as the winner of the Tasman Cup.
