CHILDREN LEAVE SCHOOLS
WAIPAWA PEOPLE ALARMED

WAIPUKURAU, this day
A severe earthquake shock was experienced at 11.12 this morning. It came as a sudden jolt, which was followed by a gentle swaying motion. The people hurriedly left buildings and rushed into the streets and open places, while children were promptly evacuated from schools. No damage has been reported. Clocks stopped, overhead wires rocked and buildings creaked ominously. Residents of Waipawa were similarly alarmed but no damage occurred.
