HOSPITAL FULL.
EXTENSION OF INFIRMARY NEEDED. URGENCY NOT UNDERSTOOD. Necessary extensions to the infirmary at Epsom have been contemplated hy the Hospital Board for some time in order to relieve the pressure on the main hospital. It has been proposed that the work should be carried out a storey at a time,. but lack of money has been responsible for delay in commencing the project.
A letter was received at yesterday's meeting of the board from the DirectorGeneral of Health stating that subsidy would be paid only on approved works, and only then when moneys were required for actual commitments.
This brought forth the remark from Mr. J. Rowe, chairman of the infirmary committee, that that institution was full, and there- was no more room in the shelters.
Mr. Wallace: There are 718 patients in hospital to-day. Quite a number of these should be. sent to the infirmary. It is absolutely necessary that we should make the Government understand that the enlargement of the infirmary must be gone on with.
