POSITION IN WELLINGTON. THROUGH SERVICE REFUSED.' / ; (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. A lower revenue from tram fares and increased expenses, due to petrol taxation, were to-day given by the Mayor, Mr. G. A. Troup, -as reasons for the refusal of a request of Melrose and Houghton Valley residents for the resumption of the former through bus service to the city. The buses at present run to John Street, where passengers have to transfer to the trams. In refusing to make a large loss into a larger one, Mr. Troup said that bus feeder services only could be run in future, and that no parallel runs were financially possible. The position was made even plainer by Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., chairman of the works committee, who said the 3d universal fare was looked upon as a guarantee, and that the only alternative to raising tram fares, if the bus services asked for were granted, would be to increase tie rates,
