MOUNT EDEN COUNCIL.

The Mount Eden Borough Counc!! met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. E. H. Potter) presiding. Building Permits—lt was reported that building permits of a value of £1878 had been issued during the month. Street Collection.—Permission was given to the Community Sunshine Association to hold a street collection on May 30. Postal Facilities—lt was decided to ask the Chief Postmaster to provide a better method of clearance of street posting boxes on Sundays for Southern correspondence. Resignation.—The resignation of Mr. J. G. Moodie was received, and appreciation of his services was expressed. GLEN EDEN TOWN BOARD. The fortnightly meeting of the Glen Eden Town Board was held last evening. Mr. W. E. Martin presided, and Messrs. A. J. Routley, W. F. Rosier, J. Bond and G. H. Ambler were present. Guns Declined.—An offer from the Auckland City Council to supply some trophies of the late war (German machine-guns, etc.) Was declined; Main Highways.—An application was made to the Main Highways Board for a subsidy on-the traffic inspector's fees. The board had been working on the assumption that a subsidy would be paid on the traffic inspector's.fees, but. this had. not been done, and involved the board in considerable expense, hence the application. Waitemata Electric Power Board.—lt was resolved to ask permission from the W.E.P.B. .to affix street signs at certain specified places on the electric light poles. Also to. request the Power Board to provide extra street lights as per agreement. Finance.—A yearly financial statement was submitted by the town clerk which was approved. Receipts since last meeting were £7' 2/5, and- expenditure £275 7/5. Speeding.—A complaint was lodged that certain motorists were in the habit of exceeding the speed limit in the town area. It was resolved that a stop be put to the practice, and the traffic inspector was instructed to prosecute in all cases of excessive speeding. Works. —It, was decided to purchase 50 yards of spent oxide for dressing footpaths. MANGERE EAST. . RATEPAYERS' MEETING. A meeting of the Mangere East Ratepayers' Association took place last night, when there was a large attendance. Messrs. House and Rickards, local members of the Manukau County Council, were present, and they were welcomed by the chairman, Mr, J. Clark. In regard to the association's request for a rubbish tip for the district, Mr. J. Somers reported that an inspector from the Health Department had inspected the suggested sites and was favourably impressed. Mr. J. Clark reported that the Papatoetoe society had written direct to the Minister of Railways about the extension of workers' weekly tickets and fares, and a suggestion that the association should do likewise was adopted. With a view to getting the eastern corner of Buckland and Massey Roads rounded off, Messrs. House and Rickards promised to interview >the trustees of the property about acquiring the corner. It was reported by the riding members that several new works would shortly be put in hand. • Mr. D. Kay congratulated 1 the Tiding members on valuable work done j in the riding during the year out of the available revenue.
