DECREE MADE ABSOLUTE.
AUCKLAND DIVORCE SUIT. ■ OBLIGATION OF HUSBANDS. Before. Mr. Justice Ostler *in the! Supreme Court, Henry Joseph, Richard Burton (Mr. Singer) moved for a decree nisi granted against his wife some months ago to be made, absolute. Mr. E. H. Burton applied for maintenance for the respondent. Mr. Singer said the husband main-: •tained his wife until he finally succeeded in obtaining conclusive evidence of misconduct, which was. the ground of the divorce petition. She had been receiving 25/ a week from, him since the decree nisi was granted. The case for the respondent was that she was now in a very bad state of health and had 110 means of her own. Making the degree absolute and making an order against the husband for £1 a week maintenance, his Honor pointed out that the rule was that even if the conduct of the husband had been unimpeachable, he might be required to secure, the maintenance of a guilty wife.
