ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES.
DETECTIVE ARRESTS CHINESE A REMAND GRANTED. Charlie Lee (56) has been arrested by Detective Nalder oil a charge <if obtaining £8 from Tain Yip by falsely representing that he would pay such sum to the Customs Department to allow Tain Yip to remain in New Zealand. A remand, until February 20, was granted. It will be remembered that the other day when threo Chinese were ordered to be deported for remaining in the Dominion too long, they told the magistrate that they had each paid Charlie Lee £8, understanding that by so doing they were entitled to stay.
