BETTER GET OUT.

Canadians Can't Make Butter Business Pay. DOMINION COMPETITION. OTTAWA, February 15. Mr. J. W. Edwards (Conservative) stated in the House of Commons yesterday that the Australian treaty had. brought about a decrease in the production of Canadian butter. The money spent on the 10,000,0001b of butter imported from Australia and New Zealand in one year , would deTelop * 5000 mixed farms in Canada. Since the treaty came into force an effective exportable surplus of 24,000,0001b of butter had been replaced by an annual importation of 10,000,0001b. The farmers were also beginning to feel the effect of the treaty on the price of cheese. Australia and New Zealand had a climatic advantage. Mr. H. B. Adshead (Labour) said he had informed his rural constituents that if they could not compete with their Empire neighbours 10,000 miles away they had better go out of business. Canadian farmers were exporting more than the country was importing because they could get more money outside the Dominion. —(A and N.Z. and Sydney "Sun.")
