The Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwin, was asked in the House of Commons yesterday whether he approved or repudiated a speech recently made fey Viscount Wolmer, Assistant-Postmaster-General, in which he had characterised the postal system as pure socialism, and suggested that it would be more efficient and economical if it-were run by private enterprise.
Mr. Baldwin replied cryptically to the effect that
when Lord XVolmer had attained years of discretion probably he vrould speak with that
caution which characterised every one of the utterances of Ministers. (Laughter.)
Members of the Hoase comment that Lord Wolmer's age is 40, and opinion is divided as to whether Mr. Baldwin's reply was a snub or humour.
