GERMAN ARMY BUDGET.
ADMITTEDLY HIGH COST. BERLIN, February 15. In discussing the Army Budget, the Minister of Defence, Herr Groener, admitted that the cost was high, but contended that Germany, spent £15 a year less on each soldier than did Britain.
Surprise was expressed in France early last month at the German defence budget of £35,000,000. It was pointed out that for her skeleton army of 100,000 men, withbut tanks, aeroplanes and big guns, Germany would spend more in 1928 than she spent before the war. on the Imperial Army, of 700,000 men. The. critics - concentrated on the item of £140,000 for the maintenance of gas masks, and they-asked ft the repairs included gold-plating.
