PRISONER OVERJOYED
Murder Charge Reduced To Manslaughter. SURPRISE IN KRANTZ CASE. (Received 12 nc:a.) BERLIN, February 15. There was a,surprise at the resumption of the murder trial of the youth Krantz when the Crown Prosecutor declared that he would withdraw the murder charge and substitute manslaughter. The bench granted the withdrawal, which meant liberation from custody during the hearing of the lesser charge. This decision transformed Krantz, who apparently did not understand and had been hanging limply over the dock in a pose of exhaustion and dejection. He straightened up, Bmiled and made a bolt for the door. The judge had to remind him that the lesser charge was not finished. . When the decision became known a great crowd collected. On his reappearance at the afternoon session Krantz, accompanied by his parents, was surrouuded by cheering people endeavouring to shake hands. Women wept and even scattered flowers on his head.
