ASLEEP IN BURNING HOUSE.
The Onehunga Fire Brigade was called out four times last night between the hours of 5 p.m. and midnight. The last call was the most serions, and was to a fire at the residence of Mr, Hector Black in Queen Street, which was "discovered by Mr. Hicks, next door, who saw a light in Mr. Black's kitchen, «*»<! shortly afterwards he heard a crackling sound. Getting up to investigate, Mr. Hicks found Mr. Black's kitchen on fire. Immediately he called up the brigade | and he got his hose out and placing it through the window poured water on the flames until the fire brigade arrived. Mr. Black was sleeping in the front of the house, and knew nothing of the trouble until he was awakend by the noise of the brigade in the passage between the two houses. Even then he thought the fire was next door. The damage was not great, and is covered with a policy in the London,. Liverpool and Globe Insurance Co. The first fire Vt 5 p.m. was in a vacant section in Queen Street bellind a shop, and was quickly suppressed, as were also two other similar fires in Alfred and Karawa Streets.
