Competition was very keen at the annual swimming carnival of the Retail Drapers and Mercers' Association, held in the Tepid Baths last evening. There was a record attendance.

THE PONSONBY CLUB.

The annual harbour race, held under the auspices of the Ponsonby Swimming Club, will be decided -on Saturday afternoon. The race this year will be swum over a new course. In previous seasons the swimmers have crossed the harbour from Northcote wharf to Shelly Beach baths, but as the breakwater of the new boat harbour now obstructs the course, the race will be swum

over a triangular course inside the boat harbour. The new course is approximately one and a-half miles Ion?, or about -.twii'i as long as the previous course. The start and finish will take place at the baths. In adidtlon the following events, including a number of novelty numbers, will be. decided : —looyds inter-club handicap, 150 yds breaststroke handicap. 100 yds ladies' handicap, 100 yd? junior boys' club championship. NORTH SHORE SCHOOLS.

Arrangements for the annual swimming championships for pupils of primary schools on the Xortli Shore have now boon completed by the Devonport Amateur Swimming Club. The races will be decided at Cheltenham Beach on Saturday next. Over 2"M) entries have been received. In addition to the primary senool events, two championship races have been arranged for pupil.- of the new Takapuna Grammar School. Altogether there are IS racns besides rclais and diving events. It is hoped to start the programme at 1 p.m.
