(Auckland). —The second race on;; the first day of the Waikato meeting I was timed to start at 12.45 p.m., but | it would be later than that when the ] field was dispatched. Freso was scratched for the Auckland , Cup at 9 a.m. to-day. Tarleton is to be blistered and given ' a long spell before he is asked to race again. Sunart, who won the New Zealand Cup in 1924, and who was later laid aside owing to unsoundness, is again in j work. Mr. V. Riddiford has sold the three- , vear-old filly Note, by Paper Money from Elaine, and it is probable that she will go into J. W. Jennings' stable at Riccarton. Mr. Geo. Gould, of Christchurch, purchased a colt by Honey Bee from Crimson at the Newmarket sales. The youngster is expected to arrive in New • Zealand in a few weeks' time. Mrs. M. A. Perry, of Hawke's Bay, experienced bad luck this week when the colt foal by Tea Tray from Miss jirons died. He was a full brother to Silver Tray, who, last season, as a two-vear-old, won once and ran third in four starts. Excellent nominations have been received by the Taumarunui Racing Club | for their annual meeting, to he held on December 4. Eleven are engaged in the J cup and twenty-six figure in both the | Trial Plate and the Matapuna Hack | Handicap. The other events have also filled well. Cimabue, it is stated, will next be produced at the Auckland Racing Club's meeting if he remains in New Zealand, and in the autumn he may probably bc taken to Sydney for the A.J.C. Sires' Produce Stakes, and the A.J.C. Champagne Stakes. Cimabue has been under offer td an Australian buyer for 3000 guineas, and a sale may eventuate. It is understood that Mr. E. L. Riddiford received 2000 guineas for Fool's Paradise (says our Christchurch correspondent!, when he sold the Absurd gelding to the Australian sportsman, Mr. O. R. Falkiner. There is a rumour that the three-year-olds Limerick and Battlement have been sold, but F. D. Jones has no knowledge of the reported deal. Battlement was out working at Riccarton yesterday morning (says our Christchurch correspondent) and moved well in a short sprint. He has got over the slight trouble that prevented him from racing at the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting, and he should be ready to show some form shortly. His holiday programme has not been decided on yet, but, if all goes well, he may be a visitor to Auckland. Although Naos did not win the Melbourne Cup, his second gave Mr. Sol Green a fair race. He bought for nearly £700, a half-share of the ticket that drew Naos in one of the £20,000 sweeps. Tbe holder of the ticket was Miss Strachan. a daughter of Dr. Strachan, of Melbourne. Second money was £6000, so j tbe deal was satisfactory to both. On!y j for his interest in the ticket Mr. Green | might not have started Naos for the Cup ! after his poor showing i'i the Hotham Handicap. The two David Garricks were in the limelight on November 6 (remarks the' Sydney "Sun"). The Australian-owned horse of that name won the Altona ] Handicap at Williamstown, while the one i who is owned in New Zealand finished . third in the New Zealand Derby at | Christchurch. Both are sons of Comedy \ King, and each has a famous maternal i grandam. They were bred by Mr. I | Norman Falkiner at Noorilim, Victoria. The Australian is out of Lady Isis, a daughter of The Welkin and that great Carbine mare La Carabine. The New Zealander is out of Camilla, a daughter of Wakeful, by St. Alwyne or Cardinal Beaufort. For an event of its kind, the first division of the Maiden Welter at Rosehill on November 6, was an exceptionally good betting race (says a Sydney writer). Early the favourites were Divulge and Lascelles, but they were deposed by Prince of Orange and Fondant. Speedy had many backers, and big money came for Yaleur towards the close. Gegla made the running into the straight, but Martel led at the Leger, and lasted long enough to win narrowly from Prince of Orange, with Speedy a good third. Martel was a big winner for the ring. Several bookmakers never laid a wager against the gelding. His form makes the New Zealander, Stormy, who beat him easily at Newcastle recently, look pretty useful. The Kingsfield stud of the Messrs. J. E. and C. H. Brien, is receiving a full share of the right kind of publicity this spring (says "Poseidon"). Rampion has done splendidly for his eire, Rossendale. In Brisbane on Saturday, Natural Pride, another product of Kingsfield, won the Hopeful Stakes (the "Breeders' Plate" of the Q.T.C.). Natural Pride is a colt by Orby's Pride,* whose stock are racing" this season for the- first time. He was knocked down at the la«t Sydney sales for 525gns to F. Williams, acting on behalf of the well-known Brisbane owner (Mr. "Mick" Ryan). Orby's Pride is by the English Derby winner Orby (son of Orme and sire of Grand Parade, another English Derby winner). Orby's Pride proved himself a really brilliant sprinter in England. Tregony, dam of Natural Pride, is also imported, being by Cicero (sire of Valais) from Will Return by William the Third from Recall by Retreat from Spring Ray (sister to Spring Morn, grandam of Martian and of Manfred's grandam, Otterform) by Springfield.
