WORK AT WHITE ISLAND.
CONTRACT FOR HUTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TAURANGA, Thursday. Major Kent Johnston, representing a London company formed to work the fertiliser deposits on White Island, was here to-day, and is leaving for Auckland to-night. He is now making arrangements for the erection of men's huts on the island, and hopes to let a contract next week. In about six weeks man will be started bagging guana, of which there is a large quantity on the island. Prospeccting will also be carried on in the meantime for mineral fertilisers, with which the island abounds, but which have not been worked since the disaster there about ten years ago. If it is decided to work these deposits works will be erected at Tauranga.
