OTAHUHU RECREATION GROUNDS.
TEXDERS DECLINED. Acting on authority of a poll of the ratepayers held recently, by which £1000 was set aside for improvements to Sturges Park, comprising tile levelling and laying out of a football field and cricket pitches, and formation of paths, tenders for the work were called. At last night's meeting o f the Otaliuhu Borough Council live tenders were received as follows:-Dexter and Jones, £3089 3/4; Murfit and Edwards, £3605 13/4: J. H. McAnultV, £4440: Burnside Bros., £3409; Cunningham and Co. £5270 ',/.
Owing to the high tenders received in comparison with the amount available the Mayor (Mr. R. B. Todd) considered the Parks Committee were work ing under a misapprehension, and inquired of'the chairman of 'the committee if the borough engineer had submitted an estimate. A reply in the negative being given, it was decided to decline the tenders and to refer the matter back to the committee for a report embodying modified plans.
