The collision between the Japanese steamer Tokufuku Mam, bound from Bremen to Japan, and the German steamer Heimdall during a fog off Dungeness, occurred at 11 o'clock at night. A thick fog rendered the lights of both ships invisible. The Tokufuku Maru ' diwappeared in two minutes, a huge hole 1 having been torn in her side. Many of the crew, 23 of whom are - missing;, were thrown into the water, including the captain and chief officer, ■who were picked Pup by the Heimdall.. The missing are believed to have been asleep in their bunks and to have been trapped like rats.
