WESTFIELD ODOURS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In the interests of the health and comfort of Rome thousands of residents in the neighbourhood of the above works, I call your attention to the nauseating odours (I could use a much stronger, though I fear, an unparliamentary term) that foul the air both by day and by .night. It is high time this intolerable nuisance was abated and the local bodies concerned are expected to take immediate action with this end in view. The Health Department, I believe, states that there is no reason why) these sickening stenches should be allowed to continue provided proper provision is made at the works to deal with the matter. , Now, sir, public opinion is not going to allow this nuisance to continue when it can be obviated, and I advise residents to agitate through tlieir- representatives on the Otalnihu and Manukau Councils and on the Harbour Board to compel the interests at Westfield to (a) Construct a sewer to deep water; (b) Instal a complete deodorising plant to kill the disgusttng odours from boiling down operations.—l am etc., PURITY. :
