AMERICAN COMPETITION. (Received lo.ao a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Mr. Floskins. managing director of the Ke-i«ki.n« states that a reduction in wages, is imperative if the I* al iron, and steel trade is to survive. Investors at present find it more profttab'e to put money into loans than into buildings, in consequence of prohibitive costs. He suggests a reduction of from ■_'fi to .2.? per cent in wages, perhaps more, as it was imperative that wages in Australia should not exceed those in America.
